World map, caravans and tribes

Beyond your base lies a planet of sectors. Other players, peaceful tribes and raiders all live there, and everyone can see who is on the road.

Sectors and caravans

The world map divides the planet into hexagonal sectors. Click a settlement to send a caravan there, or click an empty sector to send a caravan to camp in the field. A caravan is a party of your crew with whatever goods you load.

How fast it goes depends on what it carries and who walks: goods slow it down, strong crew carry loads more easily, and the caravan keeps the pace of its slowest member. A wagon — made in the workshop from level 5 — makes it half again as fast and carries 200 goods besides.

Visiting, trading and attacking

A caravan sets out either to visit or to attack. Friends — clan mates and peaceful tribes — let a visiting party walk onto their land (it cannot build there). Anyone else keeps it at the gates, and you decide on the map whether to break in or go home.

Setting out to attack warns the target at once, with the time left before you arrive. Players under beginner protection cannot be attacked.

Tribes and standing

River folk and stone kin trade at their trading posts and can be persuaded to let someone join your colony. Every trade raises your standing with them. Now and then a tribe asks for goods it lacks; giving them in time earns standing, ignoring the request costs a little. At high standing a tribe sends gifts.

Attacking one of a peaceful tribe costs a lot of standing, and a tribe that turns hostile will attack your people near its camp.

Raiders

Raider camps attack anyone who comes near, and about once a day they send a war party to a colony within a few sectors whose owner is online. You are warned in advance; the raiders break straight in and fight whoever they meet. With no one left standing they take what they can carry.

Walls, a strong crew and a few spears make raids far less costly. A beaten raider sometimes lies unconscious and can be taken prisoner — and in time won over.
